Descendants of Antonio Tortorello
and ViaAntonia (Altier) Tortorello
We are indebted to Sharon Bruno who has much of the info below. Sharon's research has revealed that Antonio is the brother to Francesco. Antonio (1864-1925) and ViaAntonia (Altier) Tortorello (1870-1941) came to the United States on May 11, 1904. They brought their seven children with them to the south side of Chicago, where they remained throughout their lives.

Salvatore "Sonny" Tortorello and Josefina "Josie" Tortorello. Sonny and Josie lived on the north side of Chicago for many years and he owned a small liquor store near Loyola University. Their daughter Joanne and her husband Pat lived upstairs in their two-flat.

Elena "Lena" Tortorello and Raffaele "Ralph" Broccolo. Ralph was born in Castrolibero in 1881 and came to the US in 1896 where he met and married Lena in Chicago in 1906 (see picture at right). She had also been born in Castrolibero 7/16/1885. They opened a small neighborhood grocery at 80th and Damen on the south side where they remained for about 30 years. They lived together in Chicago for more than 50 years, and then moved to Yucaipa, California, where they retired and lived until their deaths (his in 1964, hers in 1973). For a picture, click here.

Carmon Tortorello (2/24/1890). Carmon suffered from a childhood illness which left him stunted in growth and somewhat crippled. He owned newspaper stands in the city and invested in real estate.
